Thanksgiving - Foreigners Spreading the Love.

This Thanksgiving was a little different; two days late and in a country where people have no idea what would constitute a turkey hand. But, none the less it was a beautiful celebration of thanks amongst family and friends. I spent the weekend with Sarah and we invited all of her Irish friends to bring some food and feast with us. In light of my allergies etc, we set a goal to make an entirely gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, sugar free, egg free, corn free feast that didn't have to sacrifice any yummy taste of thanksgiving. And we were beyond successful! Our feast was delicious and quite the hit. I also caught the cooking hostess bug, and got a little obsessed with making food. I would do things like disappear empty handed, then suddenly return with a cake I had just baked...

We also made some festive paper hats along the lines of Pilgrim man and lady and the token American Indian. We also discovered that the Indians were way cooler than the Pilgrims. I mean lets face it, the Pilgrims totally looked like dorks! And you know the rest of Europe was laughing because they had just released their loser population on the New World. Thanks fellas, I am so happy that if you sent anyone over to settle across the ocean, it was your weirdos.

The surprise hit of the eavening was my No Egg egg substitute. There was literally hours of banter on the subject of "if it's called No Egg then what the hell is it?" It could be meatballs and elephants and maybe a chair, but thank God we know there's no egg in it!

Oh and the best part of my Thanksgiving was the snow. I went to sleep on friday after baking, and woke up Saturday (our Turkey Day) to Sarah poking me saying it had snowed outside! I ran to the window, peeked out of the curtains and felt just like Ralphie on Christmas Day! There was a blanket of, well hail/snow, over everything. So of course I threw on my boots and coat and ran down to the sea to take pictures! I've never had a snowy Thanksgiving and I've never seen snow by a pier, so this was quite the day for me. It kept on snowing into the wee hours of the morning, when the party dwindled down and had finally ended at around 5 in the morning. It was a winter wonderland and Dublin's first November snow in about 30 years. In fact it hasn't actually stopped snowing since and I had 3 snow days in a row!

Enjoy the love:

The Feast!
Sangria! (sweetened with Agave)

Buckwheat pancake breadcrumbs for the stuffing.
So, I may have promised not to put this online...but it's the greatest picture ever.
So I made an exception.
The Pilgrims, the Native, 7 O'Clock Chiken, and morning cooking.

Sweet potatoes with pineapple!

This is John,
he was christened in the shower because he couldn't fit in the sink.

Cooking in action! We used Grapeseed oil, vinegar and apples.

Ginger cake with Agave, cinnamon frosting!

Paper Hats = Party necessity.
