... just pretend the "u" isn't there

It's 20 days until I leave sunny California and fly off to not so sunny Dublin. And, now I officially won't be homeless while I'm there. In fact, I will be living in House 49 right smack dab in the middle of the Trinity campus. Which is pretty awesome, considering I had visions of myself wandering the cobblestone streets barefoot, begging for food and a roof, offering to play the spoons and sing "Yankee Doodle" or "The Wind Beneath My Wings" for a few measly Euro to put in my pocket...or lack of pocket, since I usually wear dresses anyway...

I was just thinking about all of the fun pronunciations of my name I am going to hear in the next 4.5 months. I think I need to decide to either correct everyone and be annoying, or to say "What the hell! My name originates from these cuckoo's nutty language, let them say it how they want to say it!" So, from this moment on, I must remind myself to report back with every fun new way to pronounce m-a-u-r-a. Because I would have to agree with the majority of the world in thinking that my parents are crazy for keeping the "u" when clearly it is pronounced "Mara" anyway. But you know, a 5 letter name is more visually pleasing than a 4 letter name. So when it came to the visuals, my mother knew what she was doing.  But, when it came to the phonetics, not so much. So, here's to foreseeing being called "Mora"(ugh, isn't that ugly sounding!) for the majority of my trip! Huzzah!
